Custom Granite Memorial Stones Care

Caring for your memorial stone is simple.  Our black granite is one of the hardest and most durable natural stones available, making it a preferred choice for cemetery and outdoor use. Properly crafted, it will last for decades.

Permanent Laser Engraving

We use precision laser engraving to etch your design permanently into the granite. This process removes the polished surface to reveal speckled gray stone below, creating a bold black-and-gray contrast. Unlike ink or printed options, our engravings do not peel, flake, or fade—even in outdoor conditions.

Shadow Enhancement (Lithochrome Stain)

To make the engraving stand out even more, we apply a specialized stain called Lithochrome, known in our process as “Shadow.” This stain penetrates deeply into the engraved areas, sharply increasing contrast. When professionally applied, Shadow dramatically enhances clarity and readability.

Shadow naturally wears away over time—usually within 5 to 10 years if applied correctly. Don’t worry—the engraving beneath remains permanently distinct, with its original polished black and speckled gray contrast.

We offer free Shadow replenishment. You only pay a small shipping fee. Application is straightforward: wipe it on and polish it off—similar to wood furniture polish.

Cleaning & Care Instructions

Routine care is easy and safe:

  • Use warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth or sponge.
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent spots or mineral buildup.
  • Avoid acidic, abrasive, or harsh chemical cleaners—they can dull the polish.

If the stone is exposed to sprinklers or hard water:

  • Mineral deposits may appear. Use a non‑acidic, non‑abrasive hard water stain remover and gentle scrubbing to safely clean it.

What to Avoid

  • Avoid placing under overspray from sprinklers or roof gutters.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or acidic cleaners.
  • Avoid abrasive scrubbing tools or brushes that can scratch the surface.
  • Keep away from areas with gravel, sand, or debris that lawn equipment could fling onto the stone.
  • Prevent heavy impacts—dropping the stone or letting heavy objects strike it can cause chips or cracks, despite granite’s hardness.

Damage & Warranty Coverage

We guarantee your memorial stone upon delivery. If it arrives damaged from shipment, simply send a photo of the damage and we’ll send a replacement free of charge. No need to return the original.
